Portals that open up to different dimensions, bringing in demonic entities and extraterrestrial beings, sound like science fiction at its best—or worst. However, there are many who want to believe that CERN, a prominent Swiss organization, is using advanced technology to create portals in order to potentially unleash these otherworldly phenomena on Earth.
LHC: A particle accelerator like no other
Located outside of Geneva, Switzerland, CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research) is a reputable establishment dedicated to scientific research. Per their mission statement, they seek to uncover “what the universe is made of and how it works,” utilizing a myriad of innovative technology to do so.
The most famous of these is the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), which was completed in 2008. Sitting 574 feet beneath the Franco-Swiss border and spanning 17 miles, the LHC is the largest, most powerful accelerator in the world.
In the pursuit of understanding the basic building blocks that shape our entire universe, particle physicists at CERN utilize the accelerator to blast particles such as protons or ions to near the speed of light. When two particle beams collide, the results of the collision are recorded by detectors positioned around the beams.
As you can see, the purpose of the LHC is straightforward. But, if social media is to go by, conspiracy theorists are adamant that it is actually an “evil machine that opens up portals to other dimensions.”
Top physicist believes that the LHC is a portal-maker
Avi Loeb, a renowned theoretical astrophysicist at Harvard University, has posited the theory that CERN is using the LHC to create portals, allowing aliens to travel through hidden, “curled” dimensions.
In fact, says Loeb, aliens have been using quantum gravity engineering in order to traverse these dimensions. This includes the dimension that leads to Earth, one which CERN has apparently detected and subsequently opened via the accelerator.
“Within the mainstream of theoretical physics for the past decades, the prevailing paradigm is that it is possible to unify quantum mechanics and gravity unless you work with extra-spatial dimensions,” the Israeli-American academic stated.
He continued: “We see only three of them in our daily life. But the idea is that the others are curled. And we can’t really detect them unless we shoot particles that have exceptionally high energies that will probe these tiny scales.
“Of course, if there are extra dimensions, then the reality that we are familiar with extends into them. And then one can imagine life in more than three spatial dimensions. It will be far more diverse and interesting.”
Other experts shoot down CERN-portal conspiracy
Despite the accusations of Loeb and others, leading physicists have disregarded the notion that CERN is harboring the world’s largest portal maker. They also do not believe that the organization is secretly communicating with aliens, demons, or other supernatural entities for their own agenda, malevolent or otherwise.
“To create a black hole or a wormhole, even microscopic ones, with our current technology, in the context of our standard theories of gravity, we need an accelerator as big as the whole universe,” said Dejan Stojkovic, a physics professor at the University at Buffalo. “So there is no chance whatsoever to create such a portal at the [LHC].”
Joshua Ruderman, an associate professor of physics at New York University, concurred, stating that the accelerator serves as both “a particle creation machine and a particle discovery machine.”
There you have it: despite the accusations, CERN is innocent of any activities related to portal opening. At this point, it’s impossible to do so. Nevertheless, it’s certainly a concept worth its weight in sci-fi gold!
