While Ferrari recently unveiled one of the fastest engines, the hydrogen, Lamborghini just launched something bigger and better by far. The fast car maker released the Lamborghini 634 which is the codename for the successor to the Huracán. We look at the engine that will join the High Performance Electrified Vehicle (HPEV) line-up.
Lamborghini unveils a superfast engine
As car review publications state it, the engine comes equipped with a twin-turbo V8 engine, combined with a hybrid system incorporating three electric motors. The engine also comes with an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox that recently debuted on the Lamborghini Revuelto. This engine is optimized for the new model with a max output of over 900 CV.
Lamborghini reports that the all-new engine is a clean-sheet design from Sant’Agata Bolognese, meant to deliver performance and drive emotion that surpass those of the current Huracán range.
The twin-turbo V8 mixes or combines the high linearity of progression that made the Lamborghini V10 popular with the high power and specific torque of a new-generation turbocharged engine.
The Lamborghini engine: looking at the features
As also published by Motor1.com, the twin-turbo V8 features a displacement of 4.0 liters and an exceptional specific power of 200 CV/liter.
The maximum power delivered will be 800 CV between 9,000 and 9,750 rpm, thus reaching a maximum engine speed of 10,000 rpm: a figure normally reserved for racing engines and this makes the all-new V8 unique in the landscape of road-going super sports cars.
Making it special, the engine is also unique in terms of the maximum torque delivery of 730 Nm between 4,000 and 7,000 rpm, with an exhilarating progression similar to that of a racing engine, thanks to the perfect integration of the electric unit with the combustion engine.
“The rear electric system designed and developed for the new V8 is positioned between the combustion engine and the dual-clutch gearbox and includes the inverter as well as the axial electric unit,” reports Motor1.
“The automaker released the first details on the powertrain for the Huracán successor. It sounds extraordinary.
“The engine is also capable of generating high torque and power values, with a maximum of 300 Nm and 110 kW at 3,500 rpm, while still keeping compact dimensions and low weight.”
Lamborghini engine: The idea behind the design
Remaining with its features, this highly powered engine’s design process was aimed at defining the sound, to give the new power plant a unique and distinctive character.
It’s also mentioned that the design is also looking at giving the driver an unparalleled driving experience.
Based on the reviews, the characteristics of the new V8 engine intensify in a crescendo that at high revs reaches its peak in terms of volume and frequency content.
Moreover, this is achieved in harmony with the vibrations transmitted to the chassis by the flat-plane crankshaft, creating an all-encompassing sensory experience for the driver.
With the engine unveiled early this year, the launch of the Lamborghini 634 planned launch was set for August 2024 and is another landmark in the ‘Direzione Cor Tauri’ program that is leading Lamborghini towards the progressive electrification of the range.
“This new engine displaces 4.0 liters and has a maximum output of 789 horsepower between 9,000 and 9,750 RPM and 538 pounds-foot of torque between 4,000 and 7,000 rpm,” posted Motor1.com.
“It’s a flat-plane V-8—Lamborghini’s first, believe it or not—and it’s a “hot-vee” configuration, with the turbos placed in the valley between cylinder banks. Naturally, it’s dry-sumped to ensure proper lubrication in all driving situations, and it’s direct-injected too.”
